Indian Ocean Islands
Overview
Three of our favourite Indian ocean islands are Madagascar, Mauritius and Seychelles. Madagascar is an otherworldly and untouched paradise. Best known for its lemurs colourful chameleons, stunning orchids, and towering baobab trees, Madagascar is home to some of the world's most unique flora and fauna. Madagascar is home to 70 species of lemur, long-tailed primates that are found nowhere else in the world. More than 50% of the world's chameleon population is found on Madagascar.
Nestled in the azure waters of the Indian Ocean, Seychelles is a true haven for beach lovers and nature enthusiasts. This archipelago of 115 islands is renowned for its pristine white-sand beaches, framed by lush greenery and granite boulders. It's home to numerous beaches, coral reefs and nature reserves, as well as rare animals such as giant Aldabra tortoises. If there is a paradise on earth, this is probably it with its pristine azure waters, postcard beaches, stunning natural beauty and tropical climate. But did you know pirates occupied Seychelles before its first settlers arrived in the latter part of the 18th century? Pirates made it their playground as they stopped to unwind on this island on their voyage journey. With all that geographical beauty, it’s not hard to see why.
Mauritius is a gentle island where the air itself feels softer, salted and perfumed with frangipani. The light moves lazily across turquoise lagoons, through palms that whisper secrets to the wind. It’s not just paradise — it’s rhythm, colour, and soul intertwined. The island greets you with warmth that isn’t rehearsed; it’s lived.
