Overview
This deeply restorative six-day safari retreat brings together the healing power of the African wilderness with the grounding support of a dedicated psychologist, creating a rare space for emotional renewal, nervous-system regulation, and gentle personal reflection. Set within the vast, unfenced landscapes of the Balule Nature Reserve, you are immersed in one of Africa’s most biodiverse and soulful wilderness regions, where elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, and countless bird species move freely through ancient river systems and open savanna.
Your home throughout the retreat is Sashwa River of Stars, an intimate riverside lodge overlooking the Olifants River. Designed for stillness and reconnection, Sashwa offers soft, open living spaces, shaded decks, and uninterrupted views into the wild. Here, the rhythms of the bush become part of daily life — elephants pass quietly along the riverbanks, night skies open into dense constellations, and each moment invites a slowing down of internal pace.
Throughout the week, your psychologist facilitator integrates therapeutic principles into every layer of the experience. Trauma-informed yoga sessions prioritise safety, choice, and awareness of breath and sensation, supporting participants in gently reconnecting with the body without pressure or performance. These practices are designed to regulate the nervous system and restore a felt sense of grounding and presence.
Creative expression is explored through guided art therapy sessions, where colour, texture, and form become tools for emotional processing and reflection. No artistic experience is required; the focus is on expression rather than outcome, allowing insight to emerge naturally through the creative process.
A central moment of the retreat is a cacao ceremony, using ceremonial-grade cacao as a gentle heart-opening plant medicine. Rooted in ancient traditions of Central and South America, cacao supports emotional clarity, presence, and compassionate inner awareness, creating space for meaningful reflection and connection.
Each day follows a balanced rhythm of guided bush walks, game drives through the Greater Kruger ecosystem, nourishing meals, and intentional therapeutic sessions, interspersed with restorative time for rest and integration. Evenings unfold under vast African skies, where astronomy sessions and the sounds of the wilderness encourage deep rest and perspective.
The retreat concludes with a visit to Elephant Moments and an uplifting encounter with Jessica the Hippo, offering a light, joyful closing experience before departure.
This journey invites you to slow down, reconnect inwardly, and allow the wilderness to support emotional clarity, resilience, and renewal in one of Africa’s most powerful healing landscapes.
